The beauty and colour of North Kerala are waiting to be discovered
NORTH KERALA - INDIA'S HIDDEN GEM
Always keen to escape the northern hemisphere in winter, we have visited this stunning region of North Kerala for the past three years. We really struck gold at this wonderful beachside boutique hotel. Accommodation is in secluded Keralan style bungalows, each discretely set in beautiful, peaceful gardens and all with a view through the palm trees of the deserted white sand beach & the Arabian Sea beyond.
North Kerala has yet to be touched by mass tourism and as a result the welcome we receive here is genuine and we always leave knowing that we want to return.
On this 7 day yoga holiday we will immerse ourselves in a whole range of relaxing activities, including morning and evening yoga in the purpose built yoga shala, fabulous walks along Northern Kerala's swathes of completely deserted, white sand beaches. Enjoy taking boat rides in its famous backwaters, wonderful freshly prepared Keralan and Southern Indian cuisine and swimming in the blood warm waters of the Arabian Sea, and the resort's gorgeous pool.
Our attractive, French-owned, beachside resort provides beautiful garden bungalows in typical Keralan inspired style, with air-conditioning, stylish yet comfortable furnishings and a restaurant serving locally inspired food with a French twist. The gardens are beautifully maintained and border an seemingly endless deserted beach.
We practice yoga twice a day in the morning and late afternoon in the resort's newly built shaded yoga shala set in amongst the trees. There is also time for meditation on tranquil shores of the Arabian Sea watching the setting sun.
As with all our yoga holidays I work hard to create a practice that can be adapted to suit all-comers. The yoga will comprise the spectrum between dynamic and deeply restorative yoga gently, you can do as much or as little as you please.
Yoga will take place in the morning and late afternoon with 10 yoga sessions of varying lengths and content. There is never any pressure for guests to take part in every yoga session and non-participating partners are most welcome on the holiday.
I don't belong to any particular school of yoga and I teach in a spontaneous, non-dogmatic way. Students work at their own pace with a strong emphasis on taking what they need that day from the practice and leaving out what they don't. In general, the morning yoga sessions in Kerala, will comprise more dynamic and energetic flow yoga with modifications offered to suit the individual levels of students and pranayama (breathing techniques). The late afternoon/ early evening yoga classes will include slower asana practice, with some poses held longer for deepening, yin yoga, gentle and restorative sessions, pranayama, guided relaxations, yoga nidra and meditations.
The cost of the yoga holiday in India includes; 10 yoga sessions of different lengths and contents - one in the morning and one in the late afternoon. Breakfast every day of your stay and 5 evening meals. Morning yoga will be followed by breakfast of fresh organic juices, fresh village bread, Keralan breakfast is optional, fresh coffee, tea, eggs, cereals, fresh fruits and yoghurt.
If you are looking for a boutique, barefoot, relaxing yoga holiday far away from Western tourists yet with everything you need still catered for then this is definitely the place you've been looking for.
